The Wheat and Chaff of Speech Recognition: User interface design challenges in speech recognition
Jonathan Bloom, Speech UI Designer at ScanSoft, is often skeptical of speech recognition, despite the fact that he works for a company that sells the services. Join us for a presentation in which he will discuss the limitations of speech recognition and the need for a more tempered understanding of how to best use it. He'll also address how speech recognition is tested for usability and what they've learned in the process.

As companies become more reliant on technology and insist on larger and larger projects, they are also demanding greater return from their technology investment. But larger projects have a higher level of failure (most recently in the IRS system fiasco).

Then, Rene Holl will present a case study of an automated dictation system for radiologists that used speech recognition technology and the usability testing that was done on it.
